Meet Dr. Rachel Scotland-Aschenbach, VMD
Dr. Rachel L. Scotland-Aschenbach grew up in Brigantine, NJ. She began
working at Absecon Veterinary Hospital as a Kennel Technician in 1999 when
she was 17, then as a Veterinary Technician, and finally as a veterinarian in 2008!
She graduated from Stockton University in 2004 with a B.S. in Biology and a
minor in Chemistry. She then went on to earn her VMD at the University of
Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. During her time at Penn,
she received the Surgery Department Award. Dr. Scotland-Aschenbach says her
motivation to become a veterinarian stems from losing her childhood pet,
“I lost a dog at a young age to a hit-by-car and was frustrated by a lack of
veterinary help due to the after hours timing. I wanted to be there for the next
family who went through a similar tragedy.”
She says that the most satisfying part of being a veterinarian is, “serving the community by providing care for the four-legged extension of each family and the constant learning in an ever-evolving profession.”
She is a member of the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association). Dr. Scotland-Aschenbach¹s professional interests include surgery, internal medicine, behavior, and dentistry. In her spare time she enjoys travel, reading, following the Boston Red Sox, and hanging with her family. She currently lives with her husband, Pete; Son, Tristan; Daughter Mackenzie; 3 dogs: Blaze (Hound mix), Ally (Boxer), Bodie (Mini Aussie); 4 cats: J.D., Pete, Kion, and Schmidt; a Bearded Dragon: T. rex; and fish.
